Matt Turner, President and CEO
As President and CEO of Amherst Fund LLC, Matt is a believer in the entrepreneurial spirit of companies that strive to be proud of their businesses. Matt is currently on the Boards of Saline Lectronics, Inc. and University Living.

Prior to working at Amherst Fund LLC, Matt was a professional racing driver for Porsche Cars GB and other automotive manufactures in Europe. Matt also worked with his father as a Sales Engineer / Program Manager at G.T. Products / Eaton Corp.

Matt earned his M.B.A. and M.A. Finance from Webster University of Vienna Austria and the University of Monaco, Monte-Carlo. Matt also studied in Master’s programs at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and Webster University of Geneva Switzerland. After living and working overseas for almost 10 years, Matt speaks French, German and has background in Chinese and Swedish languages. Matt received his B.A. in Economics from the University of Michigan.

 

Amherst “Nub” Turner, Managing Director
Nub Turner is one of the original founders of G.T. Products, Inc. After selling the company in 1998 to Eaton Corporation, Nub and his son Matt have often talked about operating an investment company. That vision is today realized in Amherst Fund LLC.

Nub Turner is currently on the Boards of Ervin Industries and Saline Lectronics, Inc. Past directorships have included; First of America Bank, Ann Arbor, Michigan Chamber of Commerce, Ann Arbor Chamber of Commerce, One of the founders and Past Chair of the Chamber of Commerce Innovation Center, C Text, Adtech, U.S. TeleAd, Boren Legal Software, First of America Bank Trust Committee, Kalamazoo, Official United States Ski Association, Chair Administrative Board Methodist Church, and was also involved with several Charity Organizations, Including United Way Child and Family Services, as well as the University of Michigan, and Washtenaw Community College.

Nub earned his B.A. in English from the University of Michigan.

 

Joey Hawilo,   Associate  (Intern - Summer 2007)

Joe recently graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in economics. He was a two-year board member of the Michigan Entrepreneurs, a student organization dedicated to promoting entrepreneurship. While at the University, he was on the winning team of Dr.Brophy’s Finance 629 research commercialization class where he won second place in an international business plan competition in Monaco. Prior to joining the Amherst Fund, Joe founded a collegiate- based social network with an active user base of over one thousand  students.

 

 

Carey Goenka, Junior Associate

Carey is a recent graduate of Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor, MI.  Amherst Fund L.L.C employed her through the Marketing COE program, which enables students to get hands-on experience in the professional work place.  This summer Carey will be working again with Amherst Fund but as a Junior Associate.

 

Carey plans to attend the U of M Honors College in Fall 2008, pursuing a BBA and double majoring in business economics and history.  Carey is a state semi-finalist for Forensics in the Sales category and is a co-president of Pioneer’s National Honor Society.  Last spring she was a competitor in the International DECA conference finals in Atlanta, GA. 

 

 

Alyssa (Izzy) Novak, Junior Office Administrator

Izzy is a senior at Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She is currently employed by Amherst Fund L.L.C through the Pioneer Marketing C.O.E program. This program allows students to experience the work place while in high school.

 

Izzy has been a part of the Grammy winning Pioneer Bands for the past four years and the marching band for the past two years. While marching she plays cymbals on the drumline and in concert season she plays the oboe. Izzy hopes to go to Western Michigan University in the fall of 2008 and go into aviation.

Jonathan Charles, Special Projects Consultant   (Marcel Gani Intern - Summer 2005)

As a Special Projects Consultant, Jonathan worked with Amherst Fund LLC to assess the potential of healthcare related deals.  He has held various healthcare related roles in consulting, insurance, and software related companies.  Jonathan also has previous experience from a small private equity consultancy in Dallas, Texas.  Jonathan currently serves as an Alumni Board Member for the Department of Healthcare Management and Policy at the University of Michigan School of Public Health.

Jonathan holds a Masters in Healthcare Administration from the University of Michigan, a Masters in E-Commerce from the Tepper School of Business and the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University, and a Masters in Public Health from Tulane University.  And because he did not have enough masters degrees Jonathan recently added an M.B.A. with a focus on finance and strategy from Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.

Since summer of 2006, Jonathan has been working as an Associate with the Silicon Valley Healthcare Investment Banking team at Jefferies & Company, a Wall Street headquartered investment bank.  His focus is on mergers & acquisitions, debt issuances, and equity placements for high growth medical device and healthcare services companies.

 

Dov Plawsky, Special Projects Consultant (Marcel Gani Intern - Summer 2006) 

Dov brings over 10 years of private accounting experience to Amherst Fund, LLC. He has prior experience within the Beverage, Technology and Manufacturing sectors. His most recent position was with a well known Detroit beverage producer, where he developed a thorough understanding of both the operational and financial side of the business.

Dov is currently pursuing his MBA at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan with a focus in finance and strategy. He has held a board position with the Community Consulting Club which is dedicated to solving real business issues for non-profit organizations. Dov earned his B.S. degree in Accounting from SUNY at Oswego. And, most recently, he and his team, were awarded an Assessment grant by the Zell-Lurie Institute to pursue the viability of an entrepreneurial venture.

Jamie Rae Lewis, Junior Associate and Junior Associate of Community Relations (December 2006 – June 2007)

Jamie Lewis recently graduated Pioneer High School and worked with the Amherst fund to further promote the Pioneer Fund for Excellence in Academics and Athletics. She is in the marketing education program at Pioneer and will be attending the University of Michigan in the fall of 2007.

 

Jamie played on the Sate Championship winning tennis team at Pioneer for four years and is as well a member of the Grammy Award winning Pioneer Symphony Orchestra. She volunteered her time for three years under the Center for the Education of Women as a mentor for young girls, including participating in many workshops and presentations. Jamie is a very dedicated student that looks forward to pursuing a career in marketing and obtaining a valuable work and learning experience from her time at the Amherst Fund.

 

Pinzhi (Amy) Zhang,  Junior Associate

Amy recently graduated from Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor, MI.  She was employed by Amherst Fund L.L.C through the Marketing COE program, which enables students to extend their classroom education to the professional world.  Amy serves as an office administrator, focusing on the marketing aspects of business projects.              

 

Amy will attend the Stephen M. Ross School of Business (UofM) in the fall of 2007.  She plans to pursue a career in investment banking or consulting post graduation.  She is a National Merit Finalist and a DECA Business and Management State Finalist in the Business Services Management event (2006).

 

 

Miles Atwell, Junior Associate

Miles recently graduated from Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He is employed by Amherst Fund through Marketing COE, a program that allows students to participate in a work program through their high schools. He currently works on accounting, finance and marketing projects.

 

Miles will attend Miami University where he hopes to attain a degree in either economics or finance. Miles plans to pursue a career in either banking or corporate finance He is a participant in the Model United Nations club at Pioneer. He is a member of the Pioneer DECA chapter, where in 2006 he was a State Champion in the Accounting Applications as well as a Statewide Economics Exam finalist.
